Last week, VisionIT, Inc. donated three computers, monitors, and other equipment to the Wayne State University Linux Users Group (WSULUG) as a part of its ongoing efforts to promote information technology education.
The WSULUG is a student organization focused on supporting and promoting the use of Linux, UNIX and other Open Source technologies at Wayne State University and in the surrounding community.
“Assisting student organizations like the WSULUG is an important part of our business at VisionIT,” said Aaron King, VisionIT director of online services. “As an information technology solutions firm, we recognize the importance of helping cultivate groups like this so that we can collectively create a region that can compete in the global marketplace.”
VisionIT got involved in WSULUG this fall and plans to continue to help the organization reach its goals. In another project with Wayne State, VisionIT works with the School of Business Administration and Detroit Public Schools to sponsor the E-Commerce Summer Camp. The camp takes local high school students through a 10-week educational program focused on business, technology, and E-Commerce.
“VisionIT’s support takes WSULUG many steps forward in pursuit of our goals and will play an essential role as we work to educate the campus community about Open Source software,” said Adam Lincoln, WSULUG President. “These machines will form our group’s network and open up new and exciting opportunities for research. We intend to work collaboratively to study system performance, networking, clustering, and emerging open-source technologies.”
