Detroit-headquartered VisionIT, Inc. received the 2009 Inner City 100 Award as the number one fastest-growing inner city company in America (overall) and the number one fastest-growing minority-owned inner city company during the 11th Annual Inner City 100 Awards ceremony hosted by the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City (ICIC).
This marks the fifth time in as many years VisionIT has been recognized as part of this annual list, which also earned the firm Hall of Fame honors during the awards ceremony in Boston this past Wednesday evening.
Innovative practices and sustained growth are the predominant traits of the 2009 Inner City 100, which is a ranking of the 100 fastest-growing businesses in inner city communities nationwide.
“We are honored to have received such esteemed distinction, which truly underscores our commitment to the inner city,” said David H. Segura, founder and CEO of VisionIT. “This type of recognition is timely as our company moves to roll out a pioneering program this summer that will continue to make a positive impact in urban communities.”
In 1999, ICIC created the Inner City 100 program to change perceptions about inner city business by showing the nation the advantages of inner cities. The Inner City 100 ranks the fast-growing, competitive companies located in America’s inner cities.
VisionIT’s incredible streak as part of this distinguished list earned them the right to be inducted into the ICIC – Staples Foundation for Learning Inner City 100 Hall of Fame. They were joined by 12 other inner city businesses from across the nation.
VisionIT President Christine Rice was in Boston to accept honors at the awards ceremony on Wednesday. She accepted both awards on behalf of VisionIT and its entire team of technology professionals and corporate operations.
“To be inducted into the Inner City 100 Hall of Fame is an incredible achievement for the entire VisionIT team,” said Rice. “This type of distinction is a direct result of the consistent hard work of our talented workforce and our collective commitment to excellence.”
ICIC is a national not-for-profit organization founded in 1994 by Harvard Business School Professor Michael E. Porter. ICIC’s mission is to promote economic prosperity in America’s inner cities through private sector engagement that leads to job, income and wealth creation for local residents. Visit www.icic.org.
