(Detroit, MI)

Immediately after spending the day with United States First Lady Michelle Obama to promote professional mentoring for the nation’s youth, VisionIT CEO, David Segura put her message into action by working to match VisionIT executives and other national business leaders with Detroit area youth.

As part of a 20-person dignitary group selected by the White House to join the First Lady in Detroit for her national Remarkable Mentors on the Road Project, each dignitary was matched with nine to 10 students to create a once in a life-time experience of meeting a leader in industry, politics, and sports & entertainment. Two hundred total students from metro Detroit were chosen and national and local leaders selected included basketball legend Earvin “Magic” Johnson, movie director Spike Lee, and former University of Michigan Football coach Lloyd Carr. Segura spent significant time with nine Detroit-area high school students, giving them advice on several topics and sharing his personal story of growing up in Detroit and building VisionIT.

While meeting with these students, Segura decided to take the opportunity to take the First Lady’s project and his personal passion for mentoring to VisionIT global headquarters by matching students with VisionIT senior level executives and other business leaders in VisionIT’s vast network.

“I believe that First Lady Michelle Obama’s message of fostering the leadership of tomorrow is right on track for Detroit,” said Segura. “Mentoring is paramount to the futures of our youth and VisionIT has several professionals who can help make a difference in the lives of some of the students I met.”

Segura has invited nine students to meet with VisionIT executives and other high profile professionals to develop mentorship relationships as part of helping them pursue their personal and professional goals. Their professional goals included becoming a future pilot, astronaut, lawyer, human resource executive, photographer, business leader, professional sports therapist, orthodontist, and government official. These select students and executives are scheduled to convene in July of this year.
